In April 1967, Montreal was selected to host the world's fair. During this Cold War era, the U.S. and the Soviet Union were butting heads on pretty much every political and social aspect possible. On one side of the river, the Soviets constructed a massive plunging pavilion that displayed the region's agriculture, mining, space, and energy technologies. Naturally, the United States would build a geodesic dome as a dramatic contrast. With a diameter of 250 ft, and a height of 200 ft., the dome's shape and scale stand out amongst the landscape. The walls of the hut are composed of clear acrylic panels, steel tetrahedral frames, and an environmental control system. It's original function was to exhibit U.S. culture, art, and popular Hollywood icons for the 1967 world fair.
